Turkey Day

Bringing ideas to life can be a challenge but it is also a lot of fun. A month ago I got a call from two good friends who wanted me to photograph them for a holiday card. They had no idea of what they wanted and asked if I had any cool idea's. I jumped at the opportunity and my girlfriend and I talked about ideas. After we decided on the idea to present she put a pdf presentation together to send them and they loved it right away.

My friends are Angela Bassett and her husband Courtney Vance and my idea was to bring old famous paintings to life but with a modern twist. I told them my idea would take a full day of shooting and after working through our schedule we finally made it happen today. The day started by shooting at my place at 8:30 a.m. and working until noon, then the entire crew changed locations and went to their house and worked until 8:00 p.m. this evening. It was a very long day but an extremely fun day for everyone involved. I am so excited about the images I can't wait to edit. That said it's time for me to start the editing process now.

Have a great Thanksgiving everyone and be thankful for all your blessings and lessons of 2010!

Minus Eleven

After five back to back trips and eating out way too much I arrived home this week and started a five day cleanse. Today is my last day of the cleanse and this morning I was eleven pounds lighter. It wasn't easy doing the cleanse this week as I had multiple breakfast and lunch meeting and then ended the week by shooting for a new beauty client. While on the shoot yesterday the client and crew learned that I was on a cleanse and it opened up conversation about the food and nutrition. For a long time I've heard about the movie FOOD INC, but have never watched the film. Today I rented it and just finished watching the movie moments ago. I was in shock as I watched this film and learned how most of our food is produced. From this point on I am eating organic and shopping at Whole Foods and Farmers Markets. If you haven't seen this film do yourself a favor and watch it. It will open your eyes!

Woman at Risk

I've been quiet lately but it has all been for a good reason. Work has added miles to my frequent flyer programs and my camera's have been clicking away. The past three weeks have taken me to Photo Expo in NYC, shooting billionaires in D.C. and photographing events for my friends as well.
One of my best friends daughter has Spina Bifida, a preventable birth defect that is devastating mentally, physically and financially to families. My friends have formed a foundation to help educate and raise funds for Spina Bifida. 60 million women are at rist of having a baby born with spina bifida and for ten dollars a year, woman can prevent this birth defect by simply taking folic acid supplements each day.

Recently my friends had an event in Beverly Hills to raise funds for Sophie's Voice Foundation. My friend is Boris Kodjoe, star of the NBC show Undercovers. Boris and his wife, Nicole Ari Parker are incredible people with two beautiful kids. If you'd like to learn more or to donate please go to Sophiesvoicefondation.org
