Pete Wentz Fashion Shoot for Elle Magazine

Action speak louder than words but sometimes images make a lasting impression. This month's Elle magazine features the fashion line of Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy photographed by me using my Sony A900. The June issue is on stands now and can be seen on page 86 and 87.

When I first received the call for this assignment I had the vision of a sexier shoot with more edge but in the conference calls with Pete Wentz and the magazine I learned that they wanted a cleaner look to the images so I changed the direction. My first concept was to shoot it darker with a smaller lighting umbrella from the side and use fill cards to keep the shadow side opposite of the light from going to dark. After meetings about the direction however I adapted the light to give a cleaner look which in the end was better. Still I wanted some edge to the story and looked for models to give the images the mood and attitude I was looking for. After three days of castings and going back and forth with the models we came up with the approved models. The actual shoot was a breeze compared to the pre-production. To put the models in the right mood we put together an ipod mix filled with music from Fall Out Boy and other bands with the same energy. Music is so important to every shoot, and even as I compose this post my mind in on music for my shoot's tomorrow and Monday. Tomorrow is a beauty shoot with a model and Monday is a shoot with an NFL star. Both shoots will require different music to set the mood. Stay tuned for more and learn how to bring the perfect energy to your own shoots by coming to my seminar this month in Los Angeles.

I think you have a typo on the link for Fall Out Boy. I doubt you meant to link the band as Sell Out Boy.

Way to go, bro.

Last time I checked it was FALL OUT BOY, not SELL OUT BOY.

Maybe you need to get your information correct about a band and a person such a Pete Wentz before you go and post misleading information on your blog.

You make yourself look less interesting when you mess up the important facts of someone on such a higher element than you are.

They are sell outs! And Divas! Who cares. At least he has the balls to call them on it.

If you think saying "Sell Out Boy" was a mistake, you're a moron.

Clearly he has something against them, makes no sense as to why since he was shooting Wentz.

Whatever, move along... nothing to see her but a douche with an ego!

Relax. The guy made one little crack. It could have even been playful, you people act like it was a vicious attack.

Oh, and way to be a loser and insult the photographer. This guy is great at what he does.

And Pete IS a sell out.

Definitely wasn't a typo. Maybe he just doesn't like fall out boy and it's his personal opinion that they used to be good and sold out. I don't think that anyone here over the age of 16 can disagree.
Also, this is his personal blog where he is free to post whatever he wants. Calm down, people.

Sell Out needs to get lost from people's vocabulary. It's such a bitchy, elitist, douchey term, and it's only used to hate on someone's good fortune, savvy business sense, or recognition of their talent.

First of all, he's talking about a client. Someone who paid him to do a job. That in itself is ridiculous. Second of all, I'm in agreement about kids throwing around the term "sell out". It's kind of bullshit. Third of all, what the crap does Clandestine have to do with Fall Out Boy? Pete Wentz is an entrepreneur. Hate him for being clever and successful, it just makes YOU look like a douche bag.

dude, it's fall out boy, not sell out boy. I don't know if you were trying to be funny, but chill. It's FALL out boy.

fall out boy =life :)

I think everyone throwing the term "sell out" around (including this post's author) needs to do a bit more research into the term itself. I don't recall FOB ever drastically changing their music style, look, or activities because a record company asked them to do so or to obtain more money. Blink 182? Sell outs. Green Day? Sell outs. Fall Out Boy? They were unapologetic pop-rock from day one. Get a grip, kiddos.

who does this guy think he is??? he does a spread for pete wentz then calls him a sell out? last time I checked it was FALL out boy. and if anyone is a sell out it's YOU. lower your ego then think twice about blogging that crap you douche.

You don't have to like your clients, but it's generally not a good idea to insult them on a public blog attached to your professional persona. It generally makes people less likely to want to book you in the future because you look ungrateful in the end.

Way to be professional. One could say you have sold out your artistic values for commerce/promoting Sony cameras, no?

Pete Wentz is a good guy. His band plays good music. His clothing line is interesting.

Don't be some prissy, bitchy "artist" because he had an idea that didn't match yours. How many times do you think he's heard "well, we were thinking this treatment for your video/shoot/album"?

Remember that people don't think exactly alike, and it doesn't make you look better to complain about how hard it was. From what I understand, you still did what you wanted as far as "edge" goes. Calm down. Seriously.

Wow; I'm all for someone having an opinion, but you just blow it out of the water.

You understand that you're a photographer, people PAY you to do shit for THEM, and then you have the gall to go around and publicly bash them with rude comments. Whether there were few or hundreds of your petty comments made, they can still be damaging...mostly to you.

At this point I'm thinking you're one of the close-minded douches that's upset a band doesn't release the same material album after album. Or you could be the person that doesn't even listen to the music, which makes your comments completely unjustified. Either way I find this article HIGHLY unprofessional.

It sounds to me you're taking your maturity level to a four year old's (if it wasn't there already)and stamping your feet in huff because someone didn't want THEIR product to be shown in the light YOU wanted it to be; so sorry you didn't get your way.

You Michael Jordan Smith put the ASS in classless.
You may be a good photographer but you can't bash someone who not only paid you but was probably very nice. Learn some manners.

There goes a good portion of your clients LOL.

do you really think it will make other people want to hire you, if they know that if the disagree with your artistic. "vision" for a shoot, you are going. to mock them on a public blog?

wentz & elle were your CLIENTS, they PAID you to take these photos. regardless of your personal feelings toward the people involved, it's completely unprofessional to complain about them in a public forum.

(& as others pointed out, Clandestine & Fall Out Boy are two distinct, SEPARATE business entities, in no way related to each other, so your "humorous comment" doesn't even make sense)

Hey geniuses he was referencing a FOB shirt. Shut up already.

"Sell Out Boy?"

Professionalism at its best.

if.we.want.it.to.be said...

I'm sorry, who's the sell out?

If you really think they are sell outs then why are you making money shooting them?
seriously.

I hope to goodness it was a spelling mistake or a joke gone wrong, cause son. I bet they work way harder than you do and they rarely do it for the money.

why does everyone have to bag on a celebrity just because they are doing what they want to do that does NOT make them a sell out and even if they do sell out it's none of your damn business personally i think Pete Wentz and all of Fall Out Boy are amazing and everyone should just leave them alone.
