Where Are the Great Movies?

I love movies! For decades movies have inspire me as an artist and helped me reach taller and dream bigger. Recently however it seems Hollywood has lost their way. I now search to find good movies to watch and when I do make the choice to drop $16.00 bucks on a movie I am usually disappointed now. What happened to all the great movies? At one time there were so many great movies I couldn't make time to see them all. Yes, I loved Avatar and Inglourious Bastards, but the list of really great movies are not what they used to be.

Movies I loved:
Amelie
Ronin
Bend it Like Beckham
Bourne Identity
Cinema Paradiso
City of God
Coming to America
Crimson Tide
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
Raider of the Lost Arc
It's a Wonderful Life
Jaws
Jerry McGuire
Jurassic Park
Kill Bill 1&2
Like Water for Chocolate
Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
Lord of the Rings trilogy
Love and Basketball
A Soldiers Story
The Matrix (the first one)
Outbreak
Platoon
Predator
Primal Fear
Pulp Fiction
Rear Window
Red (French)
White (French)
Blue (French)
The Ring
Saving Private Ryan
Slumdog Millionaire
Titanic
No Country for Old Men
The Color Purple
The Godfather
Schindler's List
As Good as it Gets
Scar Face
Seven
Snatch
Terminator
The Best Man
The Five Heartbeats
The Perfect Storm
The Piano
The Shawshank Redemption
The Sixth Sense
The Thing
Remember the Titans
Usual Suspects
American Werewolf in London
and many many more

Find your inspiration and always dream big!

I feel your pain. I recently made a list of my favorite movies, and was really surprised by how many of my all time favorites (as in liked enough to buy the dvd) were made in the 90's.

Maybe the hd video capability in slr's will bring about a new wave of creativity to the film industry. Here's to hoping...

That is so true I had the same problem.
I think the only nice movies that I've seen lately were Avatar, DIstrict 9 ,Watchmen and The Blind Side...the rest wasn't that great. :(

Hi Matthew,

Loved your seminar!

Buy or rent "Burnt by the Sun" by Mikhalkov. It's a Russian film.
